Narrative of a Neighborhood - Talpiot Market and Hadar

The Hadar neighborhood, once one of the sought after areas of Haifa, began a steady decline over the past few decades as people of means abandoned the area. Even today, Hadar has the largest number of abandoned buildings in the city. A lack of investment and low rent has opened up Hadar to young activists and artists looking to create a new vibe while also taking into account the relationship with the current residents.

Gentrification is an issue in cities around the world, in the Hadar neighborhood they are trying for the first time to create a synergy of investment through social impact funds, involvement of the municipality and non-profit urban renewal organizations (Eretz Ir) to create a three way partnership for creating a future for the neighborhood that is influenced by the residents and not outside developers. Participants will explore the heart of the neighborhood for a walking conversation with local activists and artists about the development of the area.

On this tour, we can dive into: impact investing and community building, Arab-Jewish relations, asylum seekers in Israel, and more.
